This past weekend New York City was full of music, fun and mud! Governors Ball 2013 took place on NYC's Randall's Island, over the span of 3 days. Though the first day was partially rained out, the other two were drowning in music (not rain) with Atlantic Records artists Icona Pop, Alt-J, Young the Giant and Portugal, The Man drawing in huge audiences all three days.
On Friday, Young the Giant impressed the crowd with a set in the pouring rain. Lead singer, Samir Gadhia, even took a moment mid-song to soak up the rain as the wish lashed it on stage. The band powered through despite festival organizer canceling the rest of the day's performances shortly after their set.
By Saturday the rain and winds had subsided and mud took their place. Yes, Governors Ball (or Mud Ball as many festival goers began to affectionately call it) became quite the mud-filled obstacle course after the rain stopped. Though this did not stop festivalgoers from showing up bright and early for Icona Pop's set. Over a thousand people trekked through the muddy festival grounds to make it over to the Skyy Vodka tent to hear the duo belt out their hit single "I Love It (feat. Charli XCX)." And they were rewarded with one hell of a show. The girls played an hour's worth of energetic dancey worthy songs that had the crowded jumping with excitement. Shortly after their set the British quartet, Alt-J, took stage and had the festival swaying with hits off their album, An Awesome Wave.
Finally, on Sunday, fans were treated to a set by the guys in Portugal, the Man. With the release of their latest album Evil Friends only coming days before the festival, fans still managed to sing along to each song as though it had been out for months already!
